With three children of their own, Jon and Lori know firsthand that children are unique and that each child has his or her own way of learning.
With 20 years of experience in accounting, financial advising, and business consulting, Jon makes sure that TLC operates most efficiently so that your child receives the most bang for your buck. Further, Jon is an educator as well: He has been teaching Continuing Professional Education courses in accounting for 15 years. "Owning a tutoring business that gives students the tools to succeed in life is win-win for everyone," says Jon. "It is perhaps the best kind of business to have."
As Chief Operating Officer, Lori, who has been working in education for 20 years—including 13 years of classroom experience spanning a wide variety of ages—knows that when a child wants help, that is a moment to seize. No one is better at matching students with the appropriate tutor for your child—or at making sure that your child’s needs are met in the best way possible. "At TLC, we have a wide range of tutors to meet your child’s needs," says Lori. "Much of success in learning is about the right fit between tutor and student—and that is something we do better than anyone else."
Renee and David Karp, together the parents of three and grandparents of seven, have been involved with education their entire lives.
A trained crisis counselor, certified teacher, and master educator, Renee has directed educational programs of all sizes and for all ages. A chosen participant in an ongoing leadership program at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Renee currently teaches adult education classes for Temple Emanu-El, the Melton School Adult Learning Program, and the Jewish Outreach Institute. Additionally, she serves on several local and national boards. "Education and knowledge are keys to success," says Renee. "At TLC, we hope to not only impart knowledge, but also equip our clients with the tools to become better learners."
A professor of music at SMU, David is a nationally known pianist, composer, educator, lecturer, and author. Since 1993, he has been honored by the David Karp Piano Festival, an annual event held at Kilgore College. He has received numerous commissions from music teachers' organizations and has been nominated by the Dallas Music Teachers as the Texas Music Teachers' Composer of the Year. He is a sought-after master teacher and adjudicator—locally, nationally, and internationally. "At TLC, we hope to empower our clients to become lifelong learners," says David. "Like Yeats said, it's not about filling a bucket, but rather, igniting a fire."
